Welcome
Welcome back. Long time no see! Because, among other things, we had a...
Computer Crash!
A computer crash can put a bigtime cramp in your newsletter style! (And lots of other things. . .) We just had our first computer crash, and it was a doozie. Our hard drive was gone. Shot. Kaput. What I had not saved (most everything) was lost. This was a hard lesson in back-ups.

Message of the Day
We have a new feature on our Website: Message of the Day. We have had a fishbowl at Dark Star Philosophia since we first opened in 1993, filled with little scrolls, each with a Message of the Day on it. It is very popular. It’s not a fortune. The intention is that you will pick out the message that you need to hear that day. It may be something deep and profound – or it may be just a joke (but remember that the jester in the king’s court is the only who can safely tell him the truth!).
Our Home page now has a place for a Message of the Day. Click daily: Message of the Day.
Dark*Starry*Nights:
| Geshe Gendun Gyatso’s Dark*Starry*Night |
Sunday, June 26th Starting at 7:00 pm FREE |

Geshe Gendun is a Tibetan monk. The title Geshe is the equivalent of a doctorate in Tibetan philosophy. He is a much respected and wonderful teacher.
Geshe Gendun returned to Dark Star Philosophia for a second Dark*Starry*Night on March 25th. The subject of this spring’s class was "Happiness and Karma." Once again I want to comment on the uniqueness of Geshe Gendun’s teaching. Every person I talked to who was there that night felt that at some point Geshe had talked directly to them, and I believe that he did. He had a message for each of us.
For one last visit before returning to India Geshe Gendun will teach a class on
Universal Responsibility
Geshe Gendun's classes at Dark Star Philosophia are very well attended. Our small space fills up quickly. We suggest that you arrive early. Extra chairs are welcomed.

| John Ananda’s Dark*Starry*Night |

John Ananda: An Evening Concert
There is no way to express what happened at Dark Star Philosophia the evening John Ananda came with his singing bowls, tingshas, Tibetan gong, and Peruvian Whistling Vessels. But people’s hearts were touched. John’s music takes you to where you can see Truth. He turned our little world into a timeless place, where we sat in other dimensions.
John is a vibrational healer combining hands-on work with the Sacred Sounds of many cultures. Many of John’s sound instruments are centuries old. In his hands-on work he combines several different modalities, including Jin Shin Jyutsu and Reiki. Working from a shamanic perspective and his own inner knowing, he intuits what is needed in the moment. John also works with his partner Heather Wolfe, at their Center, Back to Source Healing Arts Gallery, in Lanesville, Gloucester, Massachusetts. Visit their website www.backtosource.com.
| Ruth Salinger’s Dark*Starry*Night |
Ruth Salinger’s Journey
Some of the most influential people in the world are some of the most private. Ruth has walked and talked with world leaders (and swum with bears). She is humble, calm and dignified. Kind and witty. She has helped to facilitate wothwhile projects from the United Nations to Concord, Massachusetts (where she helped to save Walden Pond from development) to her beloved Russia.
(Though her favorite place, please note, is Cape Ann – she calls it the "best kept secret place").
And she honored Dark Star Philosophia with an evening talk. All her old friends showed up! She saw people she had not seen for 20 years. It was old home night.
Ruth talked about how things get done in the world. My own take on what she said: they get done by doing them. You have an intention, you take what you have, and you work with it. Then you get out of the way. Ruth’s modus operandi is behind the scenes. She gets people interested in her projects, and then facilitates connections between parties that have the power to get the work done. (One person who over and over again is involved in Ruth’s projects is Jimmy Carter.)
Says Ruth about herself: "Really I’m a bundle of curiosity and quiet rabble rouser, still hopefully working for something worthwhile." I would say so.
Ruth Salinger can be found at The Salinger Group, Inc., in Gloucester, MA.

Our original copy was a sort-of "demonstration model", with a thin little case. This edition comes as a proper presentation.
Our Times
There is no way I can accomplish all that I need to do. It would take at least 3 people – maybe more. I see a lot of people in the same boat. Many of my friends are killing themselves just trying to keep up.
There was a period when I blamed computers for this, the state of our modern world. All of us little people running around trying to keep up with computers. Ridiculous.
But my New Age philosophies tell me that the nature of our universe is changing, and I believe it. Time is speeding up. Einstein’s Theory of Relativity tells us that we will not be able to see such a change until we can step outside our own perspective and compare with something else (scientists – help me out here – is that right?). We can sure feel a difference though. Life was never so harried. Even 10 years ago, things were slower.
The New Age information is that the nature of time, and of our world, is changing. That new energies are coming in for us all the time. That our vibrations are elevating. So our perspective is changing. What was once most important to our lives drops away and new priorities take over.
I do not, however, think that running a rat race is how we are intended to handle these new energies.
As we all know, there is nothing new under the sun. The answer lies in taking time out. Time for meditation. Time for oneself. Sarah Ban Breathnach’s book, Simple Abundance, created a delicious sense of what such a life can be like.
The ancient teachings of Buddhism, as well as the wisdom of our Native elders and of wise folk the world over, tell us the same.
We cannot move forward without respecting the lessons of the past. We cannot speed up without slowing down. We cannot engage in life without stepping outside of it. Whose life is it, anyway?
More seriously, I believe the point of all this is for us is, on the esoteric level, to understand much more about the nature of time. And, on the practical level, to learn to manage it. Esoteric understanding is nothing without a practical grounding in reality. If that were not so, what would be the point in us coming into this world in the first place?
Rock Your World
In this issue of Rock Your World, The Stone Lady has written about Moonstone, one of my very favorite stones. We carry quite a bit of Moonstone at Dark Star Philosophia. This month's Rock Your World suits us to a "T": Rock Your World - Moonstone.

The Heart of Cape Ann
The Heart of Cape Ann is Woodlands. They are as dear to me, and to Rockporters, as is the Ocean. You have seen a few pictures in Rockport Through the Seasons. I have written about living on Cape Ann and about our woods in this our newsletter, Supernova (in Issue # 7 and in Issue #8).
These woods are now in serious danger. I want you to know about what is happening here on our little island, just in case you are in a position to help. There are lots of individual projects all over Rockport and Gloucester that threaten our natural beauty. This is the single Rockport issue that I hold dearest to my heart – the preservation of that which grows wild. I do not intend to burden you with all our issues in this matter. I just want to tell you about this one project – Woodland Acres – which threatens to destroy woods from the center of Pigeon Cove all the way to the ocean, in Folly Cove (near Halibut Point State Park). The proposal is for 70 house lots. More information (excerpted from the Gloucester Daily Times): Woodland Acres Page.
The Great Alcohol Debate

While my heart was in the middle of the woods, the rest of Rockport was very busy deciding whether or not to allow alcohol into Rockport restaurants. This issue created a sort of Civil War in Rockport – neighbor has been pitted against neighbor on this one. The big concern about allowing alcohol to be sold in Rockport is, and always has been, what will happen to our beautiful little town if we legalize selling booze? But now the business community has added a new question: What will happen to our beautiful little town if we don’t?
This spring’s election saw the legalization of alcohol in Rockport restaurants. There will be full liquor licenses issued to restaurants with sit-down meals. There will be no bars, and no liquor stores. There is a strong possibility that the mechanisms for this new law will be set into place in time for this summer’s season.
So now you will be able to order a drink with your meal in Rockport. (Restaurants that do not apply for licenses may still allow you to bring in your own).
A Conversation Between Great Friends
I received the following in an email. I thought I would share it with you:
A conversation was taking place between great friends, one a priest and the
other a rabbi. The priest said: "You're a very successful rabbi at a
prominent synagogue, are you satisfied?"
"Well," replied the rabbi, "It would be great to be a rabbi in a much bigger
synagogue."
"Is that all?" asked the priest.
"I'd say so," responded the rabbi. "What about you, are you satisfied?"
"Well," answered the priest, "It would be nice to be a monsignor."
"Is that all?" the rabbi continued.
"I wouldn't mind being a bishop or even a cardinal, then I could elect the
Pope!" exclaimed the priest.
"Is that all?" persisted the rabbi.
"Well, it would be awesome to be the Pope," the priest responded.
"But is that all?" the rabbi queried once more.
"What do you mean?" the priest uttered with not a little astonishment.
"What's left? Do you want me to become God?"
"Why not?" proclaimed the rabbi, "One of our boys made it!"
AOL
AOL is blocking emails from darkstaronline.com. Before I realized what
was happening, our aol customers missed one sale and two Dark*Starry*Night announcements
(Geshe Gendun returned for a second class, and John Ananda gave a concert with Tibetan Singing Bowls, a gong, chimes, & Pre-Columbian Peruvian Whistling Vessels). I thought this issue had been at least partially resolved – I was wrong.
Our AOL customers are in danger of not receiving future newsletters. Please complain to AOL, telling them that you have signed up to receive our newsletter, and that you do want to receive it. (If you talk to them via email, cc a copy to gera@darkstaronline.com). This will be helpful both to you and to us, as we can do nothing to influence aol without your support.
You can still get through to me – I have not blocked your email!
Meanwhile, may we suggest that you add us (gera@darkstaronline.com & info@darkstaronline.com) to your email address book to be certain you continue to receive email from us?
Thank you. ~ gera
Rockport Through the Seasons
This issue sees a wide span of seasonal pictures of Rockport. Summer arrives and then vanishes again. My very good astrologer friend tells me that we will continue to have erratic weather worldwide, because Neptune and Uranus are transposed (each is in the other's natural sign). Both are slow moving planets, and will not move out of the other's sign for a few more years. Well, certainly it's not boring: Rockport Through the Seasons.
Finale
This may be our only newsletter this season – we’ll see. Yours truly seems to have too much on her plate! (Perhaps I need to take time out to do more meditation...)
Your comments on our newsletter, Supernova, are always welcome. Send them to info@darkstaronline.com.
This concludes the 11th issue of Supernova. Thanks for listening. Namaste.
