Welcome
to the 12th issue of Supernova. We have much to talk about. You've already seen my dad's picture, and the giclee print we have of one of his paintings. We have much else to talk about.
A Reminder: Message of the Day
In our last issue of Supernova, we introduced our new Website feature: Message of the Day. We have had a fishbowl at Dark Star Philosophia since we first opened in 1993, filled with little scrolls, each with a Message of the Day on it. It is very popular. It’s not a fortune. The intention is that you will pick out the message that you need to hear that day. It may be something deep and profound – or it may be just a joke (but remember that the jester in the king’s court is the only who can safely tell him the truth!).
So now you can visit our Home Page daily, and click on: Message of the Day.
Doug Major's Full Moon Concerts
The highlight of the summer season was Doug Major. Good Harbor Productions joined with Dark Star Philosophia to present 2 wonderful free Full Moon Concerts in SeaFencibles Park on Bearskin Neck - one on the Full Moon in June and another in July. (The August concert was cancelled).
Doug filled Bearskin Neck with New Age Music quite as wonderful as any that we sell at Dark Star Philosophia. All of us who heard it are urging Doug to record his compositions. The 6 works composed for and performed at these 2 concerts are meditative and calming, with
the music invoking colors, breezes and all kinds of light. You could feel as well as hear his sounds as they filled up the air around us.
Doug was joined for the June concert by percussionist Ian Hunter of Salem, Massachusetts.
Douglas Major lives in Rockport, Massachusetts, working as a composer of music for
organ, synthesizer, choirs, and chamber ensembles. In the
last three years he has been commissioned by patrons in Atlanta,
Philadelphia, & Washington, DC, as well as by various performing groups in
Massachusetts, to compose choral and instrumental works with a wide variety
of accompaniment. One of his latest endeavors is a new appointment as
Composer-in-Residence for the Rockport Precision Lawn Chair Drill Team, a
renowned group of once-per-year fun-loving people who march in the annual Rockport Fourth of July Parade:
Rockport Precision Lawn Chair Drill Team.
His first career as a church musician spanned the period from 1974 to 2002.
He was organist and choirmaster at Washington National Cathedral, conducting
daily choral services, playing for presidents, kings and queens, and
administering one of the country's largest church music programs and concert
schedules. As an organ soloist, he plays numerous recitals each season, as
well as touring and recording with the Empire Brass Quintet.

Dark*Starry*Nights:
Daylene Rose's Dark*Starry*Night
On Wednesday, September 14th, Daylene Rose conducted a Group Healing at Dark Star Philosophia. I had experienced Daylene's healing work in an individual session, and found it tremendously profound. Her Dark*Starry*Night Group Healing was just as wonderful.
Daylene allows herself to be a conduit for deep healing Spiritual energies, using a technique called VortexHealing® Energetic Therapy. What you need is what you get. 20 to 25 people came together on a Wednesday evening, and together reaped the benefits of VortexHealing®. It was no mistake that each of us was there that night, or that we were there together. As Daylene explained, each group is unique, and each healing session is unique. I treasure that night for the deep healing that came to each of us.
If you would like more information on the Group process or Daylene’s work, please call Daylene at 978-210-5272 or email at: daydivine@adelphia.net
Geshe Gendun Gyatso’s Dark*Starry*Night

On Sunday, June 26th, Geshe Gendun returned to Dark Star Philosophia for one last visit before returning to India, teaching a class on Universal Responsibility.
This was Geshe Gendun's third Dark*Starry*Night. Geshe Gendun is a Tibetan monk. The title Geshe is the equivalent of a doctorate in Tibetan philosophy. He is a much respected and wonderful teacher. Many of us have attended all 3 of his evening classes here, and have grown very fond of his gentle, healing wisdom, and we will miss him much while he is gone. But it is ok - we now know that he will be returning to the United States next year. :-)) He will return to us renewed and recharged, as he will be spending most of his time at his spiritual home, in his monastery with his fellow monks.

Two Introductions
I have two people I would like you to meet this month. One is an old friend – one of those near and dear that you know you can count on if you need help. The other is a new friend – a woman who has just moved into Rockport and has already helped yours truly over one of life’s many hurdles.
Meet Mary Ellen:
MaryEllen is a Tarot Reader, and we recommend her to all far and wide. She once graced Dark Star Philosophia as our Tarot Reader in residence. Visit her now at the intersection called Donovan’s Corner on Bearskin Neck, at Soulstice, a great little shop where you can get a henna tatoo or have your hair braided.
MaryEllen is also a Reiki Master. I have experienced her healing first hand, and watched her work miracles on others. She is very modest about this fine ability of hers, and only offers her help when the need arises. I highly recommend her to you for her help in healing. MaryEllen can be reached for appointments at 978-578-2521.
Meet Susan O’Neil:
Susan is an astrologer who moved to Rockport this past spring. You know right away when you meet Susan that you are talking to a woman who thinks for herself, and who knows her own mind. She treated me to an introductory reading of my chart (I'm a Leo with a Virgo Moon and a Libra Ascendent). I was struck not only by her ability, but by her commitment. She did 2, if not 3, follow-ups with me just to make sure that I understood all that we had talked about. Her reading is a process of discovery. Although she did much preparatory work before we sat down to discuss my chart, nothing was set in stone. She is interested in getting at the truth. She uses the chart only as a roadmap. The reading itself becomes the journey to answers.
Welcome to town, Susan O'Neil, and thank you for your insights. You are a welcome addition to our community. If you are looking for a good astrological reading, Susan can be reached at 978-546-8073.

A Real Place
A teacher of mine used to say that if you want to have power in your life, you must harmonize with the land on which you live. She also said that if you have one ancestor who sleeps in this land, then you too are rooted here.
I have a friend who comes from Wales. She is planning a trip home next summer. As she was talking to me recently, she came to call Wales a "real place, at least for me". Ah. A real place.
I thought as I was talking to her that America has not been a real place since the White people arrived. That the problem is not that we White folk are not originally from here, but that we have not harmonized with the Land in which we live.
Very little feels like a real place to me any more. There have been a few in my life. Times I spent in the Berkshire Mountains – small but exquisitely beautiful mountains in Western Massachusetts. Monhegan Island, Maine – the most beautiful place on earth, my childhood summer home. And Lanesville, which is part of Gloucester. These to me are real places. I have seen pockets all over the United States that hold real places. Most of the world, outside of American culture, is real.
Those places that are real – for me – are the places where the people harmonize with the Land. And Sea. Oh my yes, fishermen are real!
Real places have flavor. They have color. They have sound, and smell. Lots of smell. You can feel the earth in them. And you can talk without stopping to think about every word that comes out of your mouth – is it proper? is it politically correct? is it inoffensive? is it hedged, is it bland, is it ok to say it? Give me someone I can talk to, and just talk!
My Welsh friend looks forward to returning to her real place. She was raised in the Spiritualist Church there (quite different, she tells me, than the Spirtualist Church here). There, she says, everything is not based on commerce. She can go for a "healing" (a la the Spiritualist Church) for just the cost of a donation. Well, of course, you can do that here, too, though I do not think she is aware of it. I did not say we do not have real people here – oh we do, we do! – there are a lot of real people here. But they are, in large part, underground. You do not find them by looking at advertisements. You find them by networking. Ah, even my language belies my words. Still, networking is a good term. Nets are good. Especially small ones. Fishermen use them.
Did I say that the real people are underground? That would be wrong. Lots and lots of them are. But also lots and lots of them are not. Many people spend their lives in 2 worlds – much like myself. The real, and the not-quite-real. The Disconnected. That would be my name for that other world – the Disconnected. American society, as a whole, is Disconnected. So I believe that the great solutions to American dilemmas do not lie in politics. I believe that all we Americans need to do is to harmonize with the Land in which we live.
How I love Woody Guthrie’s song, This Land is your Land, this Land is my Land – This Land belongs to you and me.
Though of course, Woody wasn’t quite accurate about the belonging part. We belong at least as much to the Land as the Land does to us. But then again, Woody was speaking politically. Everything in its time and place.
It's not too late:
The Harry Potter Symposium is being held in Salem, MA, (it started yesterday, Oct 6th,). It will last 5 days: www.witchinghour.org
Time: An Afterthought
Did you read "Our Times" in our last issue of Supernova? I have had an afterthought. In it, I talked about time speeding up. Maybe so. But time does not exist separate from 3-dimensional reality – which, as we have all been learning, we create ourselves as we go along. And since it’s all an illusion anyway – well then, I guess we are in control of how we create our time – and everything else. And that, my friends, is the key. We create our world in all its aspects, including time, just as a sculptor creates a work of art. It is so incredibly simple, it’s hard to believe.
Rock Your World
In this issue of Rock Your World, The Stone Lady has written about Selenite:

Price Change
There has been a large drop in the price of the glass incense burners with decorations. They were $14.00. They are now $8.50:
Kheops Art Glass Incense Holders.
A Special Note about Alcohol
Until this sping, Rockport was a dry town. There are no liquor stores here, and no bars. But this year Rockporters voted to allow alcohol in restaurants. For the first time in 150 years (well, not quite. There was one year in the 1930’s when drinking was allowed in town) – for almost the first time in 150 years, some of our restaurants now have full liquor licenses. You may now order a drink, a glass of wine or a beer with your meal.

An Interesting Story...
from a customer at
Dark Star Philosophia. She came in not long ago and purchased a deck of Tarot cards. She was, at the time, in one of those intolerable life situations that most of us find ourselves in at one time or another. She went home and spread out the cards. As a new user of the Tarot, she was amazed at the results. The cards told her that an older, wiser man would help her out of her lousy situation. The cards also told her to "seize the day". None of it made any sense to her. But the next day she went to a real estate agent, who just happened to be an older man. He helped her to find the perfect house, just one block away from her best friend’s home. Everything about this house suited our customer. It was filled with lots of love and good energy, and she felt very "sympatico" there. Normally, she would have taken her time to check out other possibilities, as this was the very first house she had looked at – and certainly would not have jumped at the very first house she saw.
Ah, but the cards had given her a heads up, and she did indeed "seize the day". The older, wiser man who knew much that she did not about real estate got her a very good deal. And so our customer was excited and looking forward to moving into her new home in August. She made a point of coming back to tell us her good news.
We like to hear a good story like this at
Dark Star Philosophia.
