Rock Your World!

Amber
This month, www.darkstaronline.com is pleased to feature Amber as the Rock Your World gem of the month. Technically, Amber isn't a stone, but rather a fossilized resin. It is rich in lore and legend. Many cultures have considered it to be extremely precious, in terms of both monetary and spiritual values.
Amber can be found in various hues of gold or yellow. You will find Amber that looks lemon yellow, or butterscotch, or even red, orange, or green in color, although the green Amber is usually due to a man-made enhancement. Ancient Greeks considered Amber to be drops of sunshine that had fallen to earth. Those drawn to Amber are often unable to see their own strengths, or to realize that they are "the sunshine of my life," in the eyes of many. Amber People sometimes need to learn to value themselves, and to realize their own worth.
Amber began as a syrupy resin on ancient pine trees, much like today's maple syrup. As the thick liquid ran down the bark of the tree and was carried by the wind and rain along grassy knolls, it often captured insects and plant life, preserving them, so that now, millions of years later, we can see them in their original form. Eventually, the Amber reached the ocean, and was pulled far out to sea, where it lay at the bottom of the ocean floor for thousands of years. I believe it was learning on different levels during that time, as if physically, while it was on the ocean floor, its spirit was traveling and learning on some other level, beyond the sun. Then, after thousands of years, the Amber would float to the top of the ocean, and wash up on the shores.
Admittedly, this is an over-simplification of the cycle of Amber, but it shows that Amber has been through the cycle of the elements on earth many times over. Amber was at one with the tree, (earth), was carried by the wind (air), rode the waves of the ocean (water), and felt the rays of the sun's warmth [or perhaps astral-traveled to a realm beyond the sun] (fire). Amber has experienced both the complex workings of the seasons and the rich life experiences available to those at one with nature’s cycles. Just as Amber has traveled through the earth cycles of earth, air, water, and sun, those with a kinship to Amber have gone through experiences that make them sense they have come full circle.
Amber is considered a very precious gem, with much significance for people on soul quests or vision journeys. A few hundred years ago, Amber found and collected on beaches had to be immediately turned over to the Catholic Church, as it was considered to have great value intellectually, spirituality, physically, and emotionally. (The punishment for people who kept the Amber for themselves was death!)
When an individual selects a piece of Amber from my stone assortment, I see how they deserve to be considered a ray of sunshine, and have memories that are almost indelible. Amber people tend to have incredible memories, yet sometimes find themselves with siblings who like to rewrite history. When family members discuss events that happened years ago, they often depend on the Amber person to remember things accurately. An Amber person can feel confident that their recollections are accurate.
It is hard to surprise an Amber individual because they have already been through so much more than the average person would realize at their first meeting. Their memories are quick and accurate, similar to the insects that Amber preserved in time.
Amber folks have encompassed an appreciation for the four seasons, and have a finely tuned sense of timing. They tend to be very cyclical, and often benefit from realizing that some of their moods or low energy periods coincide with their personal cycles. Amber folks tend to be active or passive, rather than partly active and partly passive. Part of the key for an Amber person is to actively work towards something they want, then LET IT GO, as it is when you allow yourself to be PASSIVE that what you had worked ACTIVELY for is allowed to manifest. One can imagine that in the course of a million years, Amber has experienced the art of learning on every conceivable level; the Amber Person has also learned, on physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional levels.
A person who is drawn to Amber has usually learned on many other levels. While Amber people, as children, may have been accused of daydreaming or not paying attention, what they were actually doing was learning on different levels.
You probably remember the movie Jurassic Park. Amber was the gem the scientists used to get the DNA and recreate the dinosaurs. Amber holds many secrets. It is considered a very sensitive gem, because of the length of time it has spent immersed in water.
Amber People may need to protect themselves a little better, as they are sensitive and empathetic, often feeling emotions that coincide with what someone else is experiencing. Amber is a stone of sisterhood. The individual drawn to Amber has a strong feminine side, is very sensitive, intuitive, and feels strong connections - much like a sisterhood - with special people.
Beach Amber, Temporarily Strung (Amber Chips recently washed up from the Sea, and collected on the beach):
Each piece of Amber was highly prized among the Phoenicians, who believed Amber was the petrified tears of the maidens who threw themselves into the sea because of unrequited love. This beautiful strand of golden-honey colored beads is composed of individual Amber chips from the sea, yet contrary to what one might expect from the Phoenician legend, this Amber has a soothing, calming, loving essence to it, and seems to emanate a gentle, peaceful and loving energy. The Amber chips are opaque, rather than translucent. These special chips, as a necklace or bracelet, could help a giving - although vulnerable - individual feel secure, protected, and joyful. Seemingly, as the Beatles' hit "Hey Jude" advised, this necklace seems to suggest we learn to "take a sad song and make it better!" Click on the picture for more information.
Dark Cherry Amber Bracelet:
This beautiful Cherry Amber bracelet has relatively large, smooth, and shiny chips. Cherry Amber is sometimes referred to as Black Amber, not to be confused with Jet, which is also referred to as black amber. As I held this bracelet between the palms of my hands, I felt a strong pulsation, and had an image that the "Spirits of Amber" were anxious to communicate with the correct individual, beginning with an intriguing message: "Perception is everything. I may not cure what ails you, but I can help to make what ails you easier to live with." The intended recipient of this Cherry Amber bracelet has a quiet strength, has been redefining one's potential, rebuilding one's self image, and reconnecting with one's true purpose.

Baltic Amber Turtle Fetish:
Turtles have long been considered symbols of longevity. In the proverbial stories from our childhood we learned that in races against rabbits and hares, the turtle always wins. Traditionally, the turtle takes things slow and steady, and can only make progress when he sticks his neck out.
This Amber carving of a turtle seems to speak to one with a golden drive toward success; one who is not afraid to pace oneself, and one who is not afraid to stick one's neck out!

Baltic Amber Specimen with Water Inclusion:
Before continuing, I need to say something about "Enhydros." An enhydro is a stone with water inside, and I searched for over fifteen years to find an affordable, visible enhydro. Water is the essence of life. The earth is over 75% water, yet there are precious few areas on this planet where one can find water that has not been polluted, with the possible exception of icebergs, glaciers, and water that has been inside stones for thousands of years. When you consider that humans are said to be composed of 75% water, one can conclude that the humans who are drawn to stones with water inside are also "unpolluted." In other words, these individuals have not allowed themselves to become pulled into the negativity that surrounds them! They have not allowed themselves to be robbed of the joy that can be found in living.
This incredible piece of Amber has water that is trapped inside! There appears to be a slight play of colors visible in this gem as well. It is rectangular in shape, and could be treasured as an amulet, appreciated in its present state, or perhaps turned into a lovely pendant.
The presence of water in a stone has been referred to as "the tears of the immortals." Perhaps the individual who connects with this gem has a strong passion for mythology or a keen awareness of what it was like to live in Greece at the time of the Gods and Goddesses. There is also the distinct possibility that this precious gem will be recognized as belonging to one who is being prepared for a rare Goddess initiation!
