Rock Your World!
by Terry Milton, The Stone Lady

A reader of this column contacted me after last month’s write-up, questioning whether she was a “true Rose Quartz person.” Although aware that she possessed many of the strengths and characteristics associated with Rose Quartz, she realized there were many other aspects to her personality that were not mentioned. She is correct, of course! Much of the information in this column will, of necessity, be general, rather than specific, and will show possibilities and probabilities, rather than certainties.
It is similar to reading about one’s astrological sun sign, and realizing that although many of the traits apply, the information tends to be general. Just as a full astrological reading examines the total picture, a stone reading attempts to provide clarification, insights and clues into unraveling and understanding your uniqueness.
Perhaps I was too quick to label those who may be reading this column. Quite likely, you have certain qualities that are associated with a “Rose Quartz Person,” or the strong faith of the “Amethyst Spirits” or, perhaps, the passion of the “Gentle Giants of Obsidian.” In all likelihood, you are a combination of many of the same qualities that exist in each one of these wonderful gems!
It is my hope that “Rock Your World” will peak your curiosity, and perhaps awaken the magical realms that most of us knew as children, when both the stones and our hearts were awake, alive, and filled with wonder!
Allow the stones to work their magic once again; to re-awaken the dormant child-like innocence and enchantment that brought such joy not so long ago … that time when you KNEW beyond a shadow of a doubt that you, too, were a gem!
AMETHYST
This month, the featured stone at darkstaronline.com is Amethyst, a beautiful purple quartz crystal. Individuals who are instinctively drawn to Amethyst tend to be spiritual seekers whose unwavering faith has never let them down. Amethyst personalities are learning to deal with certain perceived limitations, and, as if to compensate, an Amethyst person often attempts to do too much.
Amethyst was believed to encourage celibacy and symbolized religious zeal during the Middle Ages. In Tibet, Amethyst is believed to be sacred to the Buddha, while in Catholicism, Bishops still wear a ring of Amethyst.
In lore and legend, Amethyst was used as a strong antidote against drunkenness. The drinking goblets used at weddings and other celebrations were often carved out of Amethyst, allowing the wine to be diluted and watered down considerably, yet not appear to lose its rich color. Guests were encouraged to drink to their heart’s content, but in reality, the guests rarely consumed enough of the diluted alcohol to become drunk. When guests “miraculously” woke up without a hangover, Amethyst was praised as a stone of sobriety. Today, Amethyst remains a talisman for several of the 12-step programs.
Many of those who are drawn to Amethyst are the “square pegs” that have never been able to fit into a “round hole.” They are the spiritual seekers who must learn to deal on the physical plane, and with the mundane realities of the 21st century! Most people who are drawn to Amethyst need to take a moment to reflect on the role that stress plays in their daily lives, and begin to cultivate a more optimistic frame of mind. Amethyst has long been credited with being a gemstone that will aid in soothing the emotions, and is frequently associated with peace and harmony. Amethyst was carried by soldiers for good luck, and lore and legends surrounding Amethyst are seeped in tales of protection as well as victory in battles. Perhaps your “battles,” whether they be concerning sobriety, weight-loss, self-discipline or self-love, will be more easily won with the help of a small Amethyst talisman!
There is something unique about the “Amethyst Person,” yet it is something which one cannot readily define or “put one’s finger on.” It is said that scientists analyzed large quantities of Amethyst, attempting to explain the beautiful purple color of the Amethyst crystals. Scientists expected to find large amounts of iron, manganese, or hydrocarbons in the Amethyst, but instead found that the minute quantities present in a room filled with Amethyst could have fit on the head of a common pin.
A large percentage of children are instinctively drawn to Amethyst, as well as a large number of people who have had to push through major issues concerning shyness. Amethyst is a soothing stone, and a natural for those who wish to become less introverted! It is as if the stone were silently communicating a message to “hang in there” or “have faith,” as everything will work out. An ideal crystal for children and the “young at heart,” Amethyst is a wonderful stone for people who are striving to become at peace with their limitations.
The matrix, or the rock in which the Amethyst is embedded, will provide many clues about the individual who is drawn to a particular Amethyst geode. The matrix can be thought of as symbolizing a person’s foundation. Is it cracked? Separated? Fractured? Solid? Non-existent? Is the matrix bumpy? Full of holes? Splotchy? Missing parts? These all lend insights into the kind of support the one who is drawn to the particular piece may have received from family and peers!
Amethyst is frequently tumbled into smooth polished stones. In a stone reading, selecting a piece of tumbled Amethyst can represent a need to commit to taking action in order to manifest altruistic goals, as well as a desire for serenity and inner peace. Many perceived “rough edges” have been smoothed out, yet there is work to be done in the area of accepting and believing in oneself.
Amethyst spirits need to realize that although they are walking a spiritual path, it is equally important to be grounded in the here and now. One does not always need to go “out there” to find spiritual nourishment; it is possible, and richly rewarding, to learn to bring the spiritual nourishment to the physical plane!
Amethyst Geode Clusters
darkstaronline.com has obtained a small selection of beautiful Amethyst Quartz Clusters from Earth Echoes Crystals, which are displayed on carved wooden bases. The pieces range in color from a light lilac to a deep purple.
Gentle, yet radiating a quiet strength, this group of Amethyst Geodes was hand-selected by our “gentle-miner” friend in Brazil. These pieces speak eloquently of spiritual energies, yet are clearly aligned with the energy of the earth. There is more than a little hint that these wonderful geodes seem to whisper for the ones who wish to become re-acquainted with the child-like wonder and wistful innocence that filled their hearts long ago.
Amethyst Geode with Small Points: In this Amethyst Geode with small points,
the individual points appear to be roughly the same size,
suggesting that it may be appropriate for the “owner” to emphasize his or her leadership qualities,
rather than continuing to take the easier route of being a follower. This piece seems to have a subtle
message of “teamwork” and would be equally helpful in a home or office setting.
Amethyst Geode with Small Points is no longer available.
Amethyst Geode with Large Points: In this beautiful large amethyst quartz, the matrix is solid, suggesting a foundation where the crystal and the being drawn to the crystal were allowed to grow and flourish. Weighing close to nine pounds, this crystal was carefully selected by our Brazilian friend, the conscientious, gentle miner, Bill Adams.
It is interesting that amethyst, frequently considered a stone to promote sleep, in this unusual crystal seems to offer a "wake-up call" to the right person. The individual points in this crystal are not all of uniform size, but they have a wonderful, healing sparkle, suggesting this gem would be able to inspire many.
One point in the lower left seems to suggest a down-home, satirical, take-charge individual with a sincere desire to obtain input from all before taking action.
Occasionally, as I attune to stones, certain songs or stories "pop" into my head, and the reasons become clear in retrospect. In this instance, the comedic, uplifting songs and stories from the musical L'il Abner (which I had not thought about in decades!) still echoes in my mind, and I can only imagine that this stone, like the community of Dogpatch, will inspire groups to unite, stand up, and make their voices heard!
This stone is a treasure that will radiate peace, tranquility, love, and joy,
and there is no doubt in my mind that the person or people who eventually
"owns" this piece touch others with peace, tranquility, love, and joy!

Amethyst Crystal Ball: Amethyst crystal balls can be wonderful for tools for
creative visualization. The spheres represent movement, and those who are drawn
to an Amethyst sphere could feel as if they are being tested.
Amethyst spheres are associated with learning to trust one’s
healing energy, and are excellent tools for those who wish
to operate from a point of selfless and unconditional love.
Giant Amethyst Point: Also available is a giant single crystal of Amethyst, approximately 8” wide at the top. This piece has a natural termination which is now polished, and which tapers to a point about 2” square at the bottom. This 60-pound goodie is two feet tall. It will appeal to one who is in the process of reconciling to being a spiritual being who is having a human experience. Giant Amethyst Point is no longer available
Spirit Amethyst : darkstaronline.com has acquired a small quantity of Spirit Amethyst Stones. The piece pictured is less than two inches long, yet has two prominent crystals that are covered with tiny druzy-like crystals that are each less that ¼ inch in size. Although not quite visible in the photo, the amethyst crystals, covering Amethyst crystal points, add a unique sparkle to the Spirit Amethyst. This gem would be treasured by children or by adults who possess a child-like innocence. It would seem to "belong" to one who has had to work through issues of "belonging" or fitting in. Amethyst is traditionally associated with Atlantis, yet Spirit Amethyst seems to call to "New Souls". Spirit Amethyst is no longer available.
Amethyst Geode Ring: A geode is an earth-shaped rock containing a hollow cavity that becomes lined with crystals. When a cross-sectional cut is made through the Amethyst geode, it is known as an Amethyst Geode Ring. We are featuring a beautiful Amethyst Geode Ring, with a solid matrix, well-formed crystals of varying sizes, and a large hole or cavity. This is a remarkable stone that will help by lending energy as well as clarity and a sense of "completeness." In reading stones, I often play with words, and the "hole" in this ring seems to speak to one seeking to feel more complete or "whole." It is interesting that Amethyst geodes began as gas bubbles trapped inside volcanic rock. The people who feel strongly connected with this stone will find that their healthy bubble of enthusiasm will become greatly enhanced! Amethyst Geode Ring is no longer available.
