Labradorite
I was fascinated by Labradorite from the moment I first saw this unusual stone. One can stare at this gemstone for several seconds, and see nothing remarkable. Then, just as one begins to put the stone down, wondering what all the fuss is about, the slight alteration in perspective suddenly encourages an incredible display of depth, fire, and brilliance.
The flashes of iridescence and fire in Labradorite can be extraordinary! Usually, the “Labradorite Person” has spent far too long in the background, caught up in the impossible task of trying to be all things to all people. These kind-hearted souls have learned to focus their energies on making things easier for everyone else. Labradorite people have usually been pressured to be perfect. Being the perfect child, parent, partner, employee, employer, neighbor, friend, student, or teacher is an impossible task, as perfection does not come easy, nor does it come without a price!
Through a series of experiences and events, those who are most drawn to Labradorite have recently had an eye-opening experience or breakthrough, as if they have come to the awareness that it is important that they, too, be treated with the same kind of regard, loyalty, and respect that they have always reserved for others. Compassionate, considerate beings, the Labradorite spirits are ready to face the challenge of seeing themselves through the eyes of their peers.
Labradorite is one of the most stunningly beautiful stones you will ever see yet, at the same time, it can appear plain and ordinary. Its fire and brilliance seem to radiate from the very core of this gem. Traditionally, Labradorite is believed to help protect the aura from leakages and be helpful with one’s psychic insights. The “Labradorite People” are psychically aware, and, having spent many years protecting and nurturing others, are just now becoming able to put themselves first. Having stepped into the position of pleasing themselves, people drawn to the shimmering peacock colors seem to respond to a silent message that Now is the time to strut their stuff!
Pendant: This beautiful Labradorite Pendant is set between two semi-circles, resembling two crescent moons sitting North and South, rather than East and West. It is appropriate, as Labradorite is sometimes referred to as a dark moonstone. The brilliance in this stone is appealing. Some of the visible lines in the Labradorite appear to be going in different directions, and speak to one who has had to deal with some difficult and unwanted surprises … but managed to come through them with flying colors! Physically, there are portions of this stone that appear transparent, suggesting that individuals who connect with Labradorite are working on being as open and clear as possible, while still taking care to remain protected.

"Tongue" Shaped Polished Stone: I was instantly drawn to this stone because of its incredible play of colors, and depth. Most suitable for one who has spent far to long attempting to be “all things to all people” and who is now able to stand proud. One wonderful trait with Labradorite is that often, at first glance, it appears dull and ordinary - yet within a few moments of paying attention to the stone, one sees beauty and vibrancy that is impossible to ignore. For the being that has been “all things to all people,” this stone sings a message of timing … and it is YOUR time! The colors remind one of a peacock who is about to “strut his stuff,” and the stone also seems to be shouting an invitation or message: “You have PAID your dues! It is YOUR time! Come be yourself, and let others begin to appreciate YOU!” This stone is polished on all sides. What is less obvious is that Labradorite is beautiful INSIDE as well as OUTSIDE, and those who are drawn to Labradorite have great depth, compassion, inner beauty, and outer beauty! Step out of the darkness, into your true self!

Rough Stone: This stone sends off so many wonderful images and thought forms! At one point, I see a shield, and think of a lone knight, Sir Nicholas, who is tired of fighting and desperately in need of rest.
As Sir Nicholas strolled into an enchanted grove, he was aware that he was soon to embark on a great journey. His mind wandered, as was usually the case when one is immersed in magic, and he found himself wondering if there would be more fighting ahead. More importantly, would he ever encounter that illusive dragon that thus far had been able to outwit him at every turn?
Sir Nicholas sat in the enchanted grove, and removed his heavy helmet. For an instant, he dared to relish the notion that his burdens, if only temporarily, had all been put to rest. His eyes wandered, and were soon attracted to the beautiful play of colors on a jagged nearby rock, coincidentally, a huge piece of Labradorite. He was intrigued, and began to study the colorful, captivating stone.
In an enchanted grove, one rarely knows what anything is. He found it fascinating that this stone had the colors of gold, green, and blue, which were strikingly similar to the coat of the dragon who had been a thorn in his side for so many years.
Sleep quickly steals over a body when one is in an enchanted grove. Sir Nicholas grew drowsy, yawned, and rolled over onto his stomach, pressing his tired body against the Labradorite. Safe in the arms of Mother Nature, the young knight drifted into a much needed, soothing but captivating rest.
As the wind picked up, the dream world and the everyday world slowly merged into one. Sir Nicholas abruptly awakened, only to realize he was soaring through the air in a manner that was never possible with any of the finest horses he had ridden. On this momentous ride of a lifetime, he held on for dear life. It was as though the brilliant Labradorite, complete with intense flashes of color, has taken on a life of its own. Here he was, seemingly glued to the back of a flying beast. Perhaps it was the brilliance of the full moon that seemed to make the fog dissipate. Or was it smoke rather than fog? Even as he whizzed rapidly through space, a stunned Sir Nicholas, slowly, every-so-slowly, began to realize that he was not in Camelot anymore.
If you think you know anger, imagine the heat of a full-grown, homesick, fire-breathing dragon, traveling through space toward a loved one, while a wild young knight struggled to hold onto a wing and a snowflake's chance of survival.
It became increasingly apparent to Sir Nicholas that when he had drifted into dreamland as he reclined against the Labradorite, he somehow had wedged himself between the wings of the very same dragon he had pursued for so long! In the middle of the night, this strange beast had taken flight. As this new reality started to sink in, Sir Nicholas began to fear that his continued existence could be coming to an untimely end. He needn't have worried, though, for dragons are perfectly civilized beings.
Sir Nicholas felt a thud, and realized they were now sheltered by a shadow on a crater of the moon. The earth looked beautiful tonight, but so far away. As the dragon stretched, Sir Nicholas slid to the ground.
I am not able to time-travel, nor am I privy to knowing exactly what happened to Sir Nicholas or the dragon, but I do know that by the time they had reached their destination, they were able to perceive each other's deepest thoughts.
In a twinkling, Sir Nicholas caught a glimpse of his reflection. Unbelievably, he was again in the enchanted grove, drinking from the nearby pool, holding a small corner of the gemstone Labradorite. The minutes turned into hours, and the full impact of his mysterious journey began to sink in.
Through the Labradorite, Sir Nicholas had absorbed the magic of the dragon. Through the magic of the dragon, Sir Nicholas fully understood the precious gemstone Labradorite. The wonderful trip, the memories of the dragon, the quiet shadows of the moon, the mysteries of the enchanted grove, and the deepest respect for Labradorite would stay with his consciousness forever.
Sir Nicholas went on to become a talented Wizard, but that's a story for another day.
