Lapis Lazuli

I consider Lapis to be a stone associated with an idealistic “old soul” -- one who chose to incarnate at this time because of a deep desire to make the world a better place. Lapis people are service oriented, and want more than anything to be able to make a difference. They are true healers, who strive to make life easier for others, and who have a heart-felt desire to be of service and to save the world. Lapis individuals can feel great satisfaction when they are able to see they have had a positive impact on someone, even if it is just having an impact on one person.

The other stone I associate with being an “old soul” is hematite, which attracts the born teachers who possess age-old wisdom that must be taught. No doubt there are other stones and crystals that are indicative of an old soul, yet hematite and lapis are the two that come to mind suggesting people who come to earth primarily to heal and help, rather than to pay karmic debts or learn major lessons.

Lapis Lazuli Pendant B Those idealistic seekers who are drawn to lapis are the optimists who refuse to give up on anyone. Lapis folks are the dreamers who see the cup as half full, rather than half empty, and can find a glimmer of hope in the most hopeless of situations. They are sincere, compassionate, and truthful. Those who are drawn to lapis make loyal, true-blue friends who can be counted on in any situation. There seem to be an unusual number of nurses, therapists, and social workers who are drawn to lapis as their first choice stone.

Lapis people are closely aligned with The Hermit card in the Tarot. The Hermit has carefully climbed over many obstacles. He has worked conscientiously to get to a certain point. He can see clearly, yet finds he is blocked and unable to continue on his journey. The Hermit must stand and hold the light for others. He must realize that he can go no further until he has helped the very last person reach the level or place where The Hermit now stands.

Lapis people sometimes experience a feeling of being stuck, and must help others make progress before being able to become “unstuck.” Lapis individuals, like the Hermit, must hold the light for others, and must help the slowest, most challenged individual find success.

Lapis is a beautiful, deep blue, opaque stone, with flecks or streaks of pyrite, lending a touch of the gift of being able to take something some would consider “ordinary” and transform it into something extraordinary. Lapis was among the first gems to have been used as an adornment. It is said to be a powerful thought amplifier, used to help one understand one’s emotional issues, while calming the nerves, relieving anxiety, and easing insomnia.

Many believe that Lapis is beneficial to the throat and lungs, and can be used for boosting the immune system. Still others believe lapis will bring harmony in relationships. In Ancient Rome, lapis was considered a powerful aphrodisiac.

Lapis, a protective stone signifying safe journeys, was buried along with the dead in some civilizations to ensure a safe passage to the next part of their journey.

It is interesting to note that lapis has been used in many cosmetics, including eye shadows --- suggesting that it is a powerful stone for outer beauty, but signifying true inner beauty as well. . .

Special to Aztec Lapis:

Aztec Lapis Bracelet Aztec Lapis (also known as Denim Lapis) is a beautiful form of lapis, having a high calcite content.

This stone is wonderful for helping one to dare to communicate truths that although possibly unpopular, need to be voiced. It is a gem of courage and inner peace.
